I am Vetri, Alight Motion and After Motion apps, saying both have the same basic features, but After Motion has way more advanced/pro-level effects (he mentions roughly double, like 150 vs 300 effects). He recommends using After Motion if you want next-level, professional editing. He then goes through a long list of specific effects in the Color & Lighting and Drawing/Edge categories — Fast Adjustment, Gradient Shadow, Three Color Grading, Long Shadow, Ex Long Shadow, Deep Shadow, Deep Shadow Enhance, Drop Shadow, Edge Lines, Star effect, etc. — explaining what each one does and how it's used, mostly for text captions, lyrical video backgrounds, and cinematic-style photo edits. He also talks about joining his WhatsApp/Telegram channel for updates and mentions how to manage the app's background data/network settings.
If you desire a professional level of editing I recommend using the After Motion app. Alight Motion and After Motion are basically the same in terms of core features; both apps share the set of functions. However the difference lies in the effects. After Motion offers next‑level pro‑grade effects that Alight Motion simply does not have. That is why I recommend switching to After Motion if you aim for more advanced editing. For comparison Alight Motion has 150 effects while After Motion has close to 300, roughly twice as many. Depending on what you seek if you want next‑level editing I suggest choosing After Motion.
I have actually made a video specifically about After Motion that covers all these same shared features. I will not repeat all of that here; I will focus on the new effects in this video. Both apps have their WhatsApp and Telegram channels where I post updates regularly so if you are interested feel free to join either one to stay updated whenever something drops.
Now if you open After Motion you will notice all the features are the same as what I have explained and updates tend to roll out quickly for this app as well. That is why I keep posting them on Telegram and WhatsApp. Whenever an update comes in you do not need to do anything. Long‑press the app icon go to App Info. There you will find a Data Saver option. You can turn off internet access for After Motion from there if needed because keeping settings off will not affect your data usage. The only downside is that templates and similar downloadable content will not import properly without internet.. When an update drops I usually upload it within two to three hours so you can always check back then.
Since the core features are the same between both apps I will only cover the effects that are exclusive to After Motion. For this example I am working with a 9:16 aspect ratio. If you have zero idea about Alight Motion itself I made a four‑hour video about a week ago covering everything from scratch so check that out first. I will try to explain every effect here as thoroughly as possible so I recommend watching the video from start to finish.
Starting off tap the plus icon at the bottom. You can select a shape or any layer type. Let us head into Effects. I will only cover the pro‑level effects that are new additions here because I have already covered the basic ones in detail in another one‑hour‑plus video. I will not repeat those to avoid making this boring. I will explain why each effect is useful and how it is typically used which should give you an idea of why I call these pro effects. There is a lot packed in here. It is genuinely quite advanced.
Let us start with Color & Lighting. I will only cover the effects that are actually commonly used because I have already gone effect‑by‑effect in detail elsewhere. Up is Fast Adjustment. Let us add a photo to demonstrate say a photo of Prabhas for example. Under Effects add this effect. You will see a Lighting and Color settings section. The lighting controls work similarly to exposure and gamma. There is also a dedicated color section where you can adjust saturation and more all bundled into a single effect. You do not need to add effects, for shadows, midtones, highlights and other adjustments individually because Fast Adjustment includes remapping and everything else combined into one which makes your workflow a lot faster.
Next under Color & Lighting there is Gradient Shadow, a feature that is used a lot. Why? When you add Gradient Shadow a shadow appears either from the bottom or the top of the photo depending on where you place it. If you want to copy this effect just tap the three dots on the Gradient Shadow and choose copy. This is very useful when adding captions at the bottom of a video. For example if you type "Trending" as a caption you can change the font. The Gradient Shadow makes the text stand out and looks bright against the background. If the default position does not suit you open the effect settings find the Angle option and set it to the direction you like. This is especially handy, for video edits. It saves you from having to layer separate effects just to achieve that look. I personally use Gradient Shadow a lot. There is also a Progress slider that lets you control how strong or subtle the shadow is and an Opacity slider. Feather works in a way allowing you to control how soft or sharp the shadow edge is and there is a Blending Mode option where you can change opacity further.
